Gum disease is a prevalent yet preventable condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Though it often begins subtly, its progression can lead to severe dental and overall health complications. At our dental practice, we take pride in helping patients protect their oral health through expert care and personalized treatment plans.

What is Gum Disease and Why Does it Matter?

Gum disease, medically known as periodontal disease, is a progressive condition that affects the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. It develops in two stages:

●     Gingivitis: The earliest stage of gum disease is characterized by inflamed and irritated gums. Symptoms may include redness, swelling, and minor bleeding during brushing or flossing. With proper care, the condition is reversible at this point.

●     Periodontitis: If untreated, gingivitis advances to periodontitis. This stage involves the deterioration of gum tissue and the supporting bone. It can lead to tooth mobility, gum recession, and even tooth loss. Periodontitis is a chronic condition requiring professional intervention.

The implications of gum disease extend beyond oral health. By seeking gum disease treatment from our professional dentist in Killeen, you can protect both your oral health and overall well-being.

The Dentist’s Role in Preventing Periodontal Disease

At our Killeen dental practice, we emphasize preventive care to stop gum disease before it starts. Our comprehensive approach combines professional treatments and personalized advice to ensure effective management and prevention.

Routine Dental Cleanings

Professional cleanings remove plaque and tartar, which are the primary culprits in gum disease development. Unlike regular brushing and flossing, cleanings target hard-to-reach areas, providing a deep cleanse that helps maintain gum health.

Personalized Advice and Early Detection

Our team offers tailored recommendations to enhance your oral hygiene routine. This includes guidance on proper brushing techniques, selecting suitable oral hygiene products, and making dietary adjustments to improve gum health.

Our dentist also carefully examines your gums for subtle early signs of gum disease, such as swelling, redness, bleeding, or receding gum lines. Early detection allows us to recommend appropriate gum disease treatments and prevent further progression.

Professional Treatments for Gum Disease

When gum disease progresses, professional treatments become essential. We offer a range of effective procedures, including:

  • Scaling and Root Planing: This deep-cleaning procedure removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smooths the tooth roots to discourage further buildup.
  • Advanced Therapies: In more severe cases, specialized treatments such as flap surgery or bone grafting may be recommended by our Killeen dentist to restore the health and structure of your gums. Prompt intervention is key to halting the progression of gum disease and preserving your oral health.

Stay Ahead with Regular Visits

Gum disease may be common, but it is preventable with the right care. At our dental practice in Killeen, TX, we are committed to providing treatments necessary to maintain healthy gums and teeth.

If it’s been a while since your last dental appointment, we encourage you to visit our dental office. Take the first step toward avoiding gum disease and preserving your oral health with us today.

Sammy, Connor, the front desk staff, Dental Hygenist and especially Dr. Town are amazing! It’s great to see the same faces everyone I get a cleaning! Sammy makes the experience comfortable and welcome. Connor may be quiet but he always does a great job! The dental hygienist always remembers me and my kids. Sorry I cant remember her name but she knows who I am and that’s what matters:) Thankful for this staff and the great care they give to my family!

We’ve always had a good experience at Stonehaven. The women at the front desk are always cheerful and helpful. I love the hygienists, they always make my children and I feel comfortable and informed. I have pretty high dental anxiety and they’ve never tried to minimize my fears- but they listen to me, and help me feel as comfortable as possible. The dentists and orthodontists have been great! No issues at all. (I just wish my daughter was better at flossing, but we’re working on that!)
