Achieve a Seamless Smile with Tooth-Colored Fillings
A dental filling is a restoration designed to repair areas of teeth that have been affected by decay. When a tooth develops a cavity, or dental decay, it can weaken the tooth and potentially reach the inner pulp. To prevent this, the decayed material is removed and replaced with a tooth-colored composite resin, restoring the tooth’s strength and function.
Why You Might Need a Dental Filling
If a cavity is left untreated, it can progress to the point where a root canal becomes necessary, leading to a weakened tooth. To address decay and protect the tooth, we recommend placing a filling. Fillings are straightforward restorations that can be color-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural smile.
Who Is a Candidate for Dental Fillings?
Often, cavities aren't detected until you come in for an exam. During this visit, we use specialized instruments to check for dark areas or soft spots in your teeth, and X-rays help us identify these problem areas. If a cavity is found, it's best to have it filled promptly to prevent further issues.
What happens during the Dental Filling process?
First, we numb the area of the mouth requiring the filling. We then remove all the decay from the tooth. Next, we prepare the tooth for the composite filling by applying an etching gel to the cavity, rinsing it away, and packing the cavity with resin. The resin is then hardened using a special dental light. Multiple fillings can be placed in the same session if needed. It is important to schedule treatment as soon as a cavity is detected.
