Are you struggling with missing teeth, difficulty chewing, or ongoing dental problems that just won’t go away? If so, it may be time to consider dental implants. At Stonehaven Dental & Orthodontics, we understand that your smile is more than just cosmetic—it plays a vital role in your confidence, health, and everyday comfort. Dental implants are one of the most reliable and long-lasting solutions for restoring missing teeth, and knowing the signs that you may need one can help you take action before small issues turn into major oral health concerns.

Below, we’ll walk you through the top signs you may benefit from dental implants and why this treatment is considered the gold standard in tooth replacement.

Why Dental Implants Are the Best Solution

Dental implants are designed to replace missing teeth with a permanent, natural-looking restoration. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants integrate directly with your jawbone, providing unmatched strength and stability. They not only restore your smile but also help maintain bone health and prevent shifting of surrounding teeth.

1. Missing One or More Teeth

The most obvious sign you may need a dental implant is the loss of one or multiple teeth. Gaps in your smile can impact your appearance, lower your confidence, and make simple tasks like chewing more difficult. Even a single missing tooth can cause nearby teeth to shift out of alignment, leading to bite problems. Dental implants fill these gaps seamlessly, restoring both the look and function of your smile.

2. Difficulty Chewing or Eating

When damaged or missing teeth interfere with your ability to eat comfortably, it can significantly affect your daily life. Many patients in Burleson find that dental implants allow them to chew naturally again, enjoying their favorite foods without pain or restrictions. Because implants mimic the strength of natural teeth, they provide the stability that other restorations often lack.

3. Severe Tooth Decay or Damage

Sometimes, a tooth becomes so compromised by decay or trauma that it cannot be saved. In these cases, extraction may be necessary. A dental implant is often the best replacement option, offering a durable solution that looks and feels just like a real tooth. Unlike traditional restorations, implants are anchored securely into the jawbone, providing long-term strength and function.

4. Ill-Fitting Dentures or Bridges

If you currently wear dentures or bridges that slip, cause sore spots, or make you self-conscious, dental implants could be the solution. Many patients choose implants because they provide a permanent alternative to removable devices. With implants, there’s no need for adhesives, no worrying about your teeth shifting, and no embarrassment during meals or conversations.

5. Bone Loss in the Jaw

One of the lesser-known consequences of missing teeth is bone deterioration. When the root of a tooth is absent, the jawbone no longer receives stimulation and begins to weaken over time. Dental implants address this issue through a process called osseointegration, where the implant fuses with the bone and helps preserve its strength. This not only maintains the shape of your face but also supports long-term oral health.

6. Infected or Failing Dental Work

Crowns, bridges, and fillings don’t always last forever. When older dental work begins to fail, it can lead to infections, pain, and further complications. If you’ve had repeated problems with traditional restorations, a dental implant may offer the permanent solution you need. Our Burleson team carefully evaluates your oral health to determine whether implants are the best option for you.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Successful implant treatment depends on factors such as healthy gums, sufficient bone support, and overall oral wellness. Understanding the factors that determine candidacy for dental implants
provides clarity on who may benefit most from this treatment. Generally, ideal candidates typically have:

  • Healthy gums and surrounding teeth
  • Adequate bone density to support the implant
  • A commitment to maintaining good oral hygiene
  • Overall good health to support healing after placement

Even if you’ve experienced bone loss, advanced procedures can often make implants possible. Our implant dentist in Burleson will create a personalized treatment plan that fits your needs.

Sammy, Connor, the front desk staff, Dental Hygenist and especially Dr. Town are amazing! It’s great to see the same faces everyone I get a cleaning! Sammy makes the experience comfortable and welcome. Connor may be quiet but he always does a great job! The dental hygienist always remembers me and my kids. Sorry I cant remember her name but she knows who I am and that’s what matters:) Thankful for this staff and the great care they give to my family!

We’ve always had a good experience at Stonehaven. The women at the front desk are always cheerful and helpful. I love the hygienists, they always make my children and I feel comfortable and informed. I have pretty high dental anxiety and they’ve never tried to minimize my fears- but they listen to me, and help me feel as comfortable as possible. The dentists and orthodontists have been great! No issues at all. (I just wish my daughter was better at flossing, but we’re working on that!)
